Short story...

Welcome to rookart, a little brand dedicated to a medium called scraperboard. I am an artist, illustrator and graphic designer and I'm a teensy bit crazy about scraper board (white board with a black coating which I scratch away), I'm also mad for insects, birds, reptiles and pretty much anything with fur, scales and wings. Long story...

When I was 5 years old I announced to my mum that I was going to be a graphic designer. I don't remember much more about that conversation and I'm not really sure that I knew what a graphic designer was back then - but, I was true to my word and went off to study graphic design. It was during this period that I was introduced to Scraperboard, an age old art form on the verge of being lost to the digital world.

Scraperboard has an amazing history, used in printing and advertising for decades due to it's clean, crisp lines and ability to reproduce beautifully, it was the medium of choice for many illustrators. The detail that can be achieved meant that scraper board was perfect for scientific and medical illustrations from the early 1800's. Thankfully this stunning medium has found a new life and seems like it will be sticking around.

Update..

Now based on the beautiful Island of Oahu, Hawaii, I am surrounded by the ultimate inspiration to keep me busy and my store full of surprises.
